Fast Back-End Navigation & Operation using Keyboard only

Save tons of time on Navigating and Operating Odoo!

Press Ctrl twice within 0.5 seconds to launch Navi. Type in the Menu you want to go to. Enter selects the first suggestion in the list - lightning fast!

Access hard-to-find Wizards instantly - don't waste time clicking through Menus. To launch Export Translation:

2x [Ctrl] > 'e tr' > [Enter]

Search for Records and Actions

Pick a Record and press Enter to open it in Form View:

Enter : open record in current window.
Shift + Enter : open record in new window.
By holding Alt key in any of the above cases the object is opened in Edit mode (either in current or in new window).

Or continue selecting other records and press Enter to view them all in List View:

Or select an Action to be performed on the given Records:

A prefilled Wizard will show up, where you only need to tick In Portal if that contact needs to have access to the Portal:

It doesn't matter in which order you list Records and Actions. This is for different people think differently and approach tasks from different sides. Here we choose to print PDFs for a set of Sales Orders:

Navi does a simple thing, but it does it good. Once you pick a Record or an Action of some Model, all further suggestions are auto-limited to that Model. So that you won't mix Quants with Partners by mistake and won't Run Schedulers on Partners :)

Press Esc or click on the grey area to close the Navi input.

Create / Delete Records

Type +[space] to Create a Record of the given Model. Type x[space] to Delete selected Records of the given Model.

Filter by Model

Type :<Model> to only suggest Records / Actions of that Model.
Examples: :Products, :Customers, :Suppliers, :Window Actions etc. Compare these two:

In fact, it's not quite :<Model>, but rather a :<Menu>, so instead of :Partners you see :Customers and :Suppliers. This is for user convenience, as users normally don't think in terms of Partners, but in terms of Suppliers + Customers. Technically, these are Menus that show non-transient Models. More Examples:

  • List different tags:
    :[space]ta.

  • Check Groups of Portal Access Management in a new window:
    :w a > [Enter] > portal > [Enter] > [Shift]+[Enter]      (or [Shift]+[Alt]+[Enter] to Edit)

Configuration

No configuration is needed since version 1.0.

Menus are suggested out of the box. Records are suggested out of the box by activating the desired model with :<Model>.

Optional configuration allows to fine-tune search strategy for Records and to allow specific models to be searched automatically (i.e. without specifying :<Model> filter first).

The Models whose Records/Actions are to be looked up automatically (i.e. without specifying :<Model> filter first) are configured from menu Records Navigation. You no longer have to know where to find this menu: just launch Navi and start typing Navi(gation) > [Enter]. Or just pick the Navi Config suggestion always shown as the last suggestion. Or immediately create Configuration Records using suggestion Missing some Records? Add them to Navi Config!.

Records can be Searched by ID, Name, or by both ID and Name (the default).

  • When Searching by ID, a Template can be specified for showing ID in suggestions.
  • When Searching by Name, Search fields can be specified to limit the search space. Leave Search fields blank for natural search. Above we don't want to search Partners by email, so instead of natural search we set Search fields to name only.
Of course, suggested Records / Menus / Actions are all limited by Users' Access Rights.

Cache is used wherever possible and feasible on both server side and client side (browser) to make Navi lightning fast, and to achieve the smoothest user experience possible.

Created by Developer for Developers

  • Save tons of time on Odoo Navigation and Operation!
  • Forget about Menus - concentrate on the Actions!
  • Stop serving Odoo - make Odoo serve you instead. Make it follow your thoughts.
  • Learn that Odoo is not just Free and Configurable, but also Fun to use!

  • A must-have for any Odoo Client even more so!

Soon to come

  • List View operation using Keyboard only:
    • Selecting multiple items using Keyboard only in a fast and convenient way.
    • Accessing Print/More actions using Keyboard.
    • Opening arbitrary item using Keyboard.
    • Navigation pointer like in GMail.
  • Shift + Enter : select last suggestion in the list

Tentative

  • Ctrl + Enter : select all suggestions
  • Filters: Last Week / Last Month / Today / Tomorrow / Yesterday.
  • Add Navi to Front-End (Website). [Doubtful]

Ideas

  • "As" Keyword for imitating the Search View for a given Model. Makes Navi behave like the Search bar of the given Model's Action.

@Mario Gielissen I've pushed a possible fix to Odoo repo. Please update the module and reload the page (Ctrl + R) to see if it solves the error.
