Progressive Web App Documentation

Progressive web apps use modern web APIs along with traditional progressive enhancement strategy to create cross-platform web applications. These apps work everywhere and provide several features that give them the same user experience advantages as native apps.

Installation & users setup

Before installing the module, your python environment must have python-magic package installed.

pip install python-magic

Note

If you do not install the library properly, when you run your odoo application, it will return a module not found exception.

After library installation, you have to setup your proxy web server to enable HTTPS requests.

Note

Remember that PWA requires an HTTPS website, so make sure su correctly setup you Odoo application first.

To work properly, this module requires a Service-Worker-Allowed directive for service_worker.js file. You have to add this directive into your proxy server. Here is an example for NGINX server:

# Service worker directive
location /web_pwa/static/src/js/service_worker.js {
    add_header 'Service-Worker-Allowed' '/';
    proxy_pass http://<your-odoo-upstream>;
}

After that, you can run your odoo application and install web_pwa module. Once installed, you can configure application data.

Note

This parts is available only if you activate developer mode in Settings -> Activate developer mode

Go under Settings -> Technical -> Web Application -> Manifest and open the pwa setting already created. Edit app info and set the icons: without them, browser will not recognize the application. Alter saving your modification you can refresh your web page and, if you have correctly fill the data, you will display the request of the browser to install the new app.
