You can specify the user or email to whom you want to send email triggers. This can be an HR person or anyone with a valid email address.

Specify the number of days before the contract expiry or birthday to trigger alerts, as shown in the picture below:

You can set up custom templates for both contract expiry and birthday alerts, as shown below:

You can view the list of employee birthdays, as shown below:

Once, requested criteria is met, the system will automatically send an email alert to the specified user/email.
