KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Sale Order Reference in Manufacturing Planning

Overview

SALE ORDER REFERENCE IN MANUFACTURING PLANNING

In Odoo's Manufacturing Planning, the Sale Order Reference feature becomes vital when using the Make to Order (MTO) route. It links sales orders directly to production tasks, ensuring that manufacturing only begins when orders are confirmed. This streamlines operations, minimizes excess inventory, and ensures timely delivery, making it ideal for businesses focusing on customized, on-demand production.

Configuration

Once the Sales Order Reference is installed in the Manufacturing Planning module, users can see sales order references within production planning.
By default, Odoo sets the MTO route as archived. This is because MTO is a somewhat niche workflow that is only used by certain companies. However, it is easy to unarchive the route in just a few simple steps.
To do so, begin by navigating to Inventory -> Configuration -> Routes. On the Routes page, click the Filters button and select the Archived option. This shows all routes that are currently archived.

Enable the checkbox next to Replenish on Order (MTO), then click the Action button to reveal a drop-down menu. From the drop-down menu, select Unarchive.

Finally, remove the Archived filter from the Search bar. The Routes page will now show all available routes, including Replenish on Order (MTO), which is now selectable on the inventory tab of each product page.

On the product page, select the Inventory tab and enable the Replenish on Order (MTO) route and Manufacturing in the Routes section.

After configuring a product to use the MTO route, a replenishment order is created for it every time a sales order including the product is confirmed. The type of order created depends on the second route selected in addition to MTO.

You can Plan Manufacturing Order by clicking on ‘Plan’ button

Planning work orders will help you to run operations smoothly. While creating a work order, you can specify the Planned Date of the production. Odoo will automatically update these details and you can use the Planning By Production platform available under the Manufacturing module to observe the scheduled work orders by production. For this, go to Manufacturing module -> Planning -> Planning by Production

the window will display the dates on which various work orders are scheduled. Clicking on the highlighted date will give a preview of the respective work order with the details of its name, Start Date, Stop Date, and Workcenter and Sale Order reference.
